A Few Fun Cards

There was a challenge to try a new technique over at StampTV last week, so I tried four different panels and made cards from three of them.  The technique was a Color on Color Emboss Resist.  Basically, you ink up your card stock, then use an embossing ink and clear embossing powder to emboss some images or sentiments on that, then ink over everything with a darker color and wipe off the embossed areas.  It turns out pretty fun.

Sunset Safari

This one is actually my favorite of all of them.  I thought it looked nice by itself, so I just layered it on some brown card stock on top of the base, which is Sweet Mango (orange-ish).  The stamp set I used is called Wild About You by Theresa Momber from Gina K.  The inks I used on all of them are different distress inks from Ranger.

Colorful Music

This was a fun one.  I really liked the colors that came out, so I found card stock that went really well with it and was even able to find some ribbon that went wonderfully with it.

Birthday Zing

This one wasn’t great, but I found some different card stocks that went really well with the colors and a fun purple ribbon that looked fun with it.  I like the fact that the ribbon is see-through which makes it fun to see the background through it.  Now, the words I made myself using the Silhouette Cameo I got for Christmas.  Had fun figuring out how to make them.

This last card isn’t using any of the backgrounds I made, it is for the sketch challenge at MFP SpeedyTV this week.  I did it all in shades of blue, which was fun, too.

Monochromatic Sketch

The center “Thanks” was embossed with a fun blue, sparkly embossing powder.  The card stocks used are Ocean Mist and Blue Raspberry from Gina K.  I can’t tell you how many different “thanks” sentiments are on it, but they are from all sorts of different sets.  Oh, the fun lacy square is a Spellbinders die set I got for Christmas, too.  It was a really good Christmas.

Thanks for spending some time with me today!  Have a wonderful rest of the week.

  1. I LOVE your shades of blue card and the embossed background goes perfectly with the sentiment. Thank you for playing along with us at MFP Sketch With a Twist Challenge.

  2. Great cards! I haven’t done the inked resist technique for years. We used to call it “Josephs coat”! And I used my rainbow pad and brayer to ink up the card. Haven’t used those items for years, either. So… you are inspiring me to pull ’em out and play!

    1. I’m glad I can inspire you, Kathy! Hmmm, I hadn’t thought of trying to brayer the ink. Though, my “brayer” is a pizza roller, so not sure if it would work well. That might be fun.

    1. Thanks, Shirley. It is actually a light blue with a dark blue as I was trying to keep it monochromatic and for me that means ONLY shades of 1 color, though I know many say a neutral is fine.
